Helllooooo 2012!
As part of the "Numbers About Me" theme I have going on for my students math journals,
(See Below...)
I gave them 10 minutes to write a story about their holiday break using numbers.
(They were instructed to give as little or as much details as they wanted.)
For example:
I was so excited for break to begin, I was counting down the hours! After school on Friday, I drove straight to the airport at 12:30. I hopped on a plane for trip to Florida that took approximately 2.5 hours. It was great to be in the sunshine! The weather was 82* in the day, which was about 40 degrees higher than it had been a few hours ago when I was in NJ! I was in Florida for 8 days with my family of 4. I saw 2 dolphins, 2 manatees, 1 conch, 1 lizard, and many fish. I ate two crazy things on my trip...alligator and octopus (ew, right!?). The weather was energizing. I went to the gym 2 times, rode my bike 2 times, and walked some...but mostly I just laid on the beach for 8 days.
They were then given 2 minutes max to share part or all of their story.
Followed by questions from their peers.
The activity wasn't originally part of my plan today. Spur of the moment I felt that it was something one class needed before getting back to the grind.
It was a big hit.
It was a big hit.
